The essentials

  • A move flips one tile and its direct neighbours.
  • Undo steps back; restart resets the current puzzle.
  • The goal is to turn off every light, with no time limit.

Crosslight is a five-by-five light puzzle you can play directly in your browser. Your goal is to switch every green tile off. Selecting a tile flips that tile and its immediate neighbours above, below, left and right. Tiles outside the edge of the board are ignored.

Your first move

Open the game and select any tile. Watch both the selected tile and its neighbours: a dark tile becomes green, and a green tile becomes dark. Select the same tile again and those changes are reversed. This is a useful experiment before you try to solve the board.

At a corner, a move affects three tiles. Along an edge away from the corners, it affects four. Inside the board, it affects five. Diagonal tiles are never changed directly by that move.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: click or tap a tile.
  • Keyboard: use Tab to reach the board. Arrow keys move focus within it. Enter or Space selects a tile.
  • Undo: return to the board before your last move. You can undo repeatedly.
  • Restart: return to the selected puzzle's original arrangement.
  • Puzzle menu: choose any of the five boards. Changing puzzles resets your moves.

What counts as finishing?

The game checks whether every tile is off after each move. When that happens, it displays your move count and offers the next puzzle. There is no time limit, score multiplier or penalty for taking a break. The counter records moves in your current attempt; undoing a move removes it from that count.

Every starting board is created by making legal moves from an all-off board. This guarantees that at least one solution exists. The game does not claim to measure the shortest solution, so treat the move count as feedback rather than a certified record.

A small exercise

Pick a corner and predict which three tiles will change. Make the move, check your prediction, then undo it. Repeat with an edge tile and a centre tile. Being able to predict a move is a useful step towards planning several moves.

Your progress stays only in the current page. Reloading starts the selected site's default puzzle again. No account is needed, and the game sends no move history to a server. When you are ready to look for a method, read the strategy guide or return to the board.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Try this: inspect one move

On puzzle 1, tap the top-left tile. Only that tile and the two neighbours that exist inside the board change. A corner has no tile above it or to its left. Use Undo to return to the starting position.

Now try a centre tile. It changes a larger cross because it has four direct neighbours. The move rule is the same in both places.
